You Tube

I view You Tube as a time waste very lovingly.... It's great for when there's nothing on TV even my mum says so!!However i can envision how You tube would have may useful applications in not only a library environment but may other organisations.It would be great to sit new members down in front of a screen and give them the terms and conditions of library use as well as a guided tour of the library upon registration, however i cant help but worry you would loose that personal touch. Also i believe this would be great for uni students studying distantly as a lecture could be recorded and view over you tube. It would mix things up a bit from the constant reading involved.

Wikipedia and wikis

Its easy to see how this tool could be applied in any institution as its uses are endless. I have previously had experience in using and contributing to Wikipedia and wikis through both work and studies.

What types of applications within libraries might work well with a wiki?

Currently we are establishing a wiki for the NE Zone childrens librarians to keep in touch with each other regaurding programs, activities and other general aspects of our roles. It is a great way for each library to keep intouch and share information.

RSS Feeds

What do you like about RSS and newsreaders?
Nothing really, im not sure i would use it. Im not good with checking things.

What sites did you select for your RSS reader?
I chose to subscribe to my work colleagues blog sites as their was nothing else i would have particularly used

How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work?
Our organisation uses the blog to keep staff at other branches in touch and up to date with what is happening at other libraries around the region. Therefore by subscribing i can keep posted when new posts are issued.
